After a busy life as a journalist in a small Italian Village, Signor Satana finally retired, ready to write his book: MARX MANIFESTO FOR THE MASSES.

Weeks passed as he became more deeply dissatisfied. The children next door were constantly playing, laughing, squealing, throwing balls, and skipping rope. He couldn’t relax or concentrate on his book.

In a huff, Satana decided he had to put an end to the noise, if only for an hour, so he went outside with an astonished look on his face, pointed toward the bell tower and exclaimed, “There’s a green dragon with pink stripes and fire coming out of his snout right under the bell tower! Run, hide!”

Of course the children all ran toward the bell tower in a great scurry of excitement. Satana smiled to himself as he relaxed into tranquil silence. Just as he became comfortable, the pitter patter of feet bound down the path by his house as two wash maidens dashed toward the tower. Odd, he thought, then went back to his writing. Soon more commotion was heard as the Fire Chief, the Police Captain, and the Court Reporter ran by his home, all in a fuss about something.

“What’s happening?” Asked Signor Satana, shoving his disheveled head out the window.

“There’s a large green dragon with purple and pink stripes blowing fire at all the children in the square under the bell tower,” cried the Fireman, raising his axe.

Satana was quite confused. He looked towards the tower, then shook his head. Just as he began to sit down along came a stampede. The Priest, the entire choir and a gaggle of Nuns were running toward the square with their bibles raised.

“What’s happening?” Screamed Satana

“A 100 foot dragon with wild red, purple and pink stripes is burning down the square, scaring children, and climbing the tower.” yelled the senior nun.

Signor Satana was perplexed. Turning away from the door he glimpsed the Pope and the Archbishop running down the path toward the bell tower.

“Say your prayers my friend,” screamed the Pope, “The dragon has come.”

Satana threw on his tweed cardigan and ran out the door toward the bell tower.
