Humans were not created to be trapped, ruled over, suppressed, coerced, forced or controlled. Limitations are highly unnatural for the human Spirit and terribly intolerable.

Over 20 years ago a wilderness magazine posted an article about a young man who’d been trapped in a massive avalanche. The dear fellow had been alone, his only companions a daypack, tiny ice pick, flashlight, his journal and a pen.

Every day he would write in his journal, encouraging himself to have faith and continue digging to once again see the light of day. He began with a small pocket of air and with his tiny pick he moved forward 2 to 4 feet every day.

Each new morning he could see the light brighter far above him, so he knew he was making headway, he simply had no idea how much further it was. His journal ranged in moods of high panic, to optimism, boredom, love for friends and family, concern, hope and surrender.

He made it through almost a month, surviving on the snow as his only sustenance, digging every day toward his freedom. The last entry in his journal read, “Its too far. I can’t do this anymore. I’m sorry.”

His body was found 3 feet from the surface. He would have made it if he had just kept digging one more day.

This war we are in may feel similar. We don’t really know where we are exactly or how much longer it will be until we see the light of freedom again. We could be closer than we believe, but the stress, the constant uncertainty, trauma, fear, and loss of many has made patriots weary, just wanting it to end…yesterday.

We are at that part where we don’t believe we can take any more; cold, tired, weakened and ready to give up, even though we can see glimmers of light peeking through.

This is the hardest part...NEVER EVER GIVE UP!

This part will test our spirit’s strength like nothing else, but if you keep going, keep moving forward, you are going to make it and live to see the light of freedom and everything you have worked so hard for.
