It may have been Augustin de hipona who suggested the word religion arose from re-eligere, “to choose again,” delegating religion as a recovery of the awareness that we are one with our Creator, after our fall into amnesia in these lower densities. Re-eligere is to re-elect, or merge once again with our own Spirit; our inner truth; our Source of life.
In this regard, there’s nothing more important than religion.
The original Native American Indians and most of the Aboriginal tribes etc. didn’t need a word for religion, having retained their awareness of and connection with their own Spirit and all of Creation.
The reverse of Re-eligere, would be moving outside of the self, away from your own Spirit.
The meaning of religion, like many words today, has been reversed to its opposite. Most people now assume religion means “The Worship of the Gods outside of the Self.” These Gods are often perceived as more powerful than humans, judgmental and angry, often causing people to fear them and feel insignificant, leading to followers becoming easily controlled.
This is the opposite of the perfect peace of re-eligere, realigning with our Spirit and Source of life within.
This simple reversal toward worshipping outside of the self instead of knowing your own Spirit as your connection with your Creator, reverses the sacred flow of life. This move away from ones own Spirit leads to extreme duality, conflict, loss of life force, and a need to eventually take other people’s light, creativity and power to feel life is worth living.
It is this very disconnection from our Source, our Spirit and our inner truth, that has led to the downfall of humanity and the perversions we see proliferating globally. Without this connection of Spirit within, we become trees without roots, blown about haphazardly by the wind.

The statue behind the pope, also in the famous Saint Paul VI audience hall, is called ‘The Resurrection.’ It’s a bronze and brass sculpture in the Paul VI Audience Hall in Rome. Apparently it captures Jesus arising from a nuclear crater.
